Behind the Tap Spotlight: Safety Specialist Scott Cantrell

Meet Safety Specialist Scott Cantrell. In this role, Scott’s responsibility is to ensure that CCWA is adhering to hazard mitigation best practices to keep our employees safe. He works with our various departments to review departmental safety procedures to make recommendations and implement safety policies.  “I really enjoy that my position allows me to work with all our departments. CCWA is made up of many professionals who know their area of expertise very well,” Scott says.

Scott began his career at CCWA working in our Distribution & Conveyance department where he spent 13 years gaining experience being on the frontlines in construction and excavation. “I know firsthand just how many hazards our employees are exposed to daily. I believe that my experience has greatly helped me in my current position as Risk/Safety Specialist”, he adds. Being in this role comes with its challenges. “The biggest challenge in my position is to ensure that employees are engaged in safety. Being engaged in anything increases knowledge retention of that subject. When an employee is engaged in our safety program, they are more likely to identify hazards and take the appropriate response.” says Scott.

Aside from this role, Scott also serves as Chair of CCWA’s Safety Committee made up of employees representing every department. During monthly Safety Committee meetings, the team reviews accidents and/or injuries and makes recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. He also works to perform facility safety inspections with the assistance of the Safety Committee.

What Scott really enjoys about his job is that it he can find solutions to problems, often through the collaboration with our experienced employees.  “I take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of our employees very serious. It is a great responsibility managing our safety program. Our employees are our greatest asset and ensuring that each of them goes home to their family and friends safely at the end of the day motivates me to do my best,” he says. #waterprofessional
