Behind the Tap Spotlight: D&C Crew Leader Ricky Harness

Meet Distribution & Conveyance Crew Leader Ricky Harness. As Crew Leader, Ricky leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crews and provides team oversight. Before his crew begins working on major projects, Ricky assists and coordinates the work with contractors, inspectors and if need be, customers. Once the crew is finished with their work, Ricky is responsible for reviewing and completing the work orders. Valves play a huge part in Ricky’s job as he is also responsible for locating and lowering valve boxes. Additionally, he also repairs broken or inoperable fire hydrants. Even when Ricky is away from his work duties, he still enjoys working on projects at home. “In my spare time, I enjoy landscaping and working on upgrades at my home,” he adds.

As Crew Leader, Ricky has had to learn how to multi-task which has been the challenging part of his job. He not only has to make sure that the work is completed in a timely manner, but he also must make sure that the work is done right. Ricky has been with CCWA for four years and has held various roles such as Mechanic and Operator. “Without my mentors I wouldn’t be here,” he says. “I have successfully been able to progress in my career at CCWA thanks to them.”

Ricky is all about his team and his community. “I enjoy working with my team and supporting the Clayton County community as much as I can,” he says. He is heavily involved in various teams and events including CCWA’s Green Team, Safety Committee, and the Model Water Tower Competition. You may see him out at community outreach events as he is also a part of our Tap on the Go team. Our Tap on the Go team participates in CCWA signature events and community events to provide water and educate customers about their tap water.

As you can see, Ricky is all about his work and making a positive impact on his community which is one of the reasons why he was selected CCWA’s Water Professional of the Year in May. “I give 100% every day that I come to work. Therefore, winning this award amplified my commitment to CCWA. When you love your job, it doesn’t seem like much of a job for you,” he says. #waterprofessional
