Officials Asking for Customer Assistance Reporting Leaks
Bottled Water Distribution Sites Are Open at Four Local Fire Stations

Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) officials are asking for customers’ assistance in reporting any leaks they have or see while out in the community, especially at vacant or unoccupied properties where leaks can go unnoticed and unreported. Finding these leaks is a critical step towards restoring pressure and service to customers in the areas affected by this outage.
“We do not have an estimated timeline of when pressure and service will be restored to customers in the affected areas. We understand how difficult this is for our customers and the frustration and anger they feel. We are working to get service restored as soon as we can. Unfortunately, there is not a quick solution to get our system back where it needs to be to supply water to all customers,” says GM H. Bernard Franks.
Operations staff continues working to improve pressure and supply in our distribution system while identifying and repairing water main leaks on the CCWA side of the system. Staff is also responding to customer shut off requests due to service line breaks on their side of the system.
Staff continues to find unreported line breaks at vacant commercial properties. These types of line breaks are not identified until water is seen coming out of the building or running on the property. This continues to pull water from our distribution system until they are found, and the meter is shut off.
Leaks should be reported by calling 770.960.5200 (listen to the entire message and then select “0”) or via private message on our Facebook page @ClaytonCountyWater.
Bottled water distribution sites in Clayton County are open until 8 p.m. tonight, or as long as supplies last. CCWA and the Clayton County Board of Commissioners partnered to provide these sites, which are staffed by CCWA employees and Fire Department personnel. One case will be provided per vehicle. CCWA is not requiring ID for pick up.

Officials issued a boil water advisory on December 25 for customers with low pressure. Once water service is restored for customers without service in the affected areas, they will need to follow the boil water advisory as well.
CCWA notified Georgia Environmental Protection Agency of the issue and the boil water advisory. Customers are being notified via the media, Facebook (@ClaytonCountyWater) and its website (www.ccwa.us).
During this boil water advisory, customers with low pressure should:
o Fill a pot with water.
o Heat the water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the pot to the top.
o Keep heating the water for one more minute.
o Turn off the heat source and let the water cool.
o Pour water into a clean, sanitized container with a cover for storage.
Customers should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for:
o Drinking
o Brushing teeth
o Washing fruits and vegetables
o Preparing food and baby formula
o Making ice
o Giving to pets
To limit risk, customers should follow the instructions contained in this release.
