Customers in North End of County Experiencing Low Pressure/Water Outage

Due to Georgia Power Contractor Hitting a 24” Water Main

6:00 p.m.

July 11, 2023 – Customers in the north end of Clayton County are experiencing low pressure or no water due to a Georgia Power contractor hitting a 24” water main while directionally drilling. Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) crews are on site making the repair and working to restore service.

The contractor, Mastec, hit the main at 1187 Morrow Road in Forest Park. Because this is a main trunk line this affects customers in Forest Park, Riverdale, Ellenwood, College Park and Morrow.

Any customers in these areas who experienced low pressure or no water should boil water before consuming it as a boil water advisory has been issued for the affected areas as a precaution.

Customers in other areas of the county are not affected and do not need to boil their water.

Customers should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for:

o          Drinking

o          Brushing teeth

o          Washing fruits and vegetables

o          Preparing food and baby formula

o          Making ice

o          Giving to pets

Customers should:

o          Fill a pot with water.

o          Heat the water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the pot to the top.

o          Keep heating the water for one more minute.

o          Turn off the heat source and let the water cool.

o          Pour water into a clean, sanitized container with a cover for storage.

Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has been notified. Information is also posted and updated on www.ccwa.us and on CCWA’s Facebook page: @ClaytonCountyWater.

To limit risk, customers should follow the instructions contained in this release.
