Behind the Tap Spotlight: Distribution & Conveyance Administrative Assistants Maureen Miller and Susan McClellan
Meet Distribution & Conveyance (D&C) Administrative Assistants Maureen Miller and Susan McClellan. Maureen and Susan are the foundation of CCWA’s D&C team, playing a key role in keeping operations running smoothly. As Administrative Assistants, they serve as the essential link between field crews and CCWA, ensuring water and sewer services run efficiently.
Every day is different for Maureen and Susan. They manage multiple systems, such as Cityworks for tracking work orders and crew assignments, JD Edwards for financial data entry, and Cayenta for customer account information. Their responsibilities include checking emails, processing emergency orders, handling service calls, and providing field technicians with the necessary information to do their jobs. If a utility locate request is needed, they take care of it, too. When water outages or road closures happen, they work with the Clayton County government or the appropriate city and send notifications to keep everyone in the loop. As Maureen puts it, “We’re the communicators between the field and the company. Our goal is to make sure the techs in the field have all the information they need, so they’re never left clueless.”
For Maureen, the opportunity to learn something new every day and solve problems keeps her motivated. “I enjoy being able to help and problem-solve daily,” she says. With 96 active employees in D&C, she thrives in a fast-paced environment. Susan values the strong sense of teamwork. “I love the family atmosphere and how we work together so easily and effectively,” she shares.
Together, Maureen and Susan bring 51 years of experience to the table—26 years for Maureen and 25 for Susan. They are experts at handling challenges, whether it’s managing emergency situations, prioritizing road closure projects, or coordinating with other agencies. “If a crew accidentally hits a phone cable, we have to call every phone provider in the area,” Susan explains. “Situations like these require quick action and effective communication.”
Fun Fact: Before CCWA had a dedicated call center, Maureen and Susan handled customer calls, dispatching crews over the radio and keeping a handwritten log of service requests while Customer Service focused on assisting in-person customers.
Outside of work, Maureen and Susan enjoy spending time with their families. Susan stays active by going to the gym and walking, while Maureen unwinds with loved ones. #waterprofessionals
