Clayton County Invites Community to Help Clean Local Streams at annual Rivers Alive Cleanup

Join Clayton County Water Authority and your neighbors to help clean up local streams and take care of our environment

MORROW, GA, October 7, 2025 – Community members are invited to participate in a hands-on effort to protect Clayton County’s waterways during the Annual Rivers Alive Stream Cleanup on Saturday, October 18 at Independence Park. Hosted by the Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA), this event brings together volunteers of all ages to help remove litter and debris from a local stream, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for all. The cleanup will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, focusing on the area surrounding a local waterway.

Hosted by CCWA’s Stormwater Management Section, this year’s cleanup continues a meaningful tradition that began in 2008, with over 2,200 volunteers having participated over the years and more than 7.5 tons of trash collected from Clayton County waterways.

“This event gives volunteers a first-hand look at the impact of dumping other trash and debris as well as littering on our environment,” said Kevin Osbey, CCWA Stormwater Director. “It’s a great opportunity to restore a local waterway, connect with others in the community, and work alongside CCWA staff to make a visible difference.”

Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m. and wear outdoor clothing and waterproof boots. Commemorative t-shirts, gloves, and trash bags will be provided. After a brief safety orientation, volunteers will spend approximately 45 minutes to one hour cleaning up the area. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

CCWA’s event is part of the statewide Rivers Alive initiative, which targets all waterways in Georgia—including rivers, streams, lakes, beaches, and wetlands—as part of a broader effort to protect and preserve the state’s water resources.
