CCWA Hosting Rivers Alive Stream Cleanup on October 19

Community volunteers needed to clean up along Swamp Creek at Mundy’s Mill High School

September 24, 2024 (Morrow, GA) – – Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) officials are putting out a call for community volunteers to help with this year’s Rivers Alive Stream Cleanup being held at Mundy’s Mill High School on Saturday, October 19 at 10 a.m. – rain or shine.

CCWA’s Stormwater Department hosts this event for volunteers to work together to clean trash, litter and other debris from a local river or creek. This is a great opportunity for scouts, civic groups, environmental clubs.

“This annual event gives volunteers a first-hand look at the damage done by dumping litter and other debris. They can help restore the area along Swamp Creek and have fun working alongside CCWA staff and other community volunteers,” says CCWA Stormwater Director Kevin Osbey.

Volunteers should arrive at Mundy’s Mill High School, 9652 Fayetteville Road in Jonesboro, by 9:30 a.m. and wear outdoor clothing and waterproof boots. Commemorative t-shirts, gloves and trash bags will be provided. After a safety briefing, volunteers will spend 45 minutes – one hour cleaning up along Swamp Creek. The event wraps up at noon. Minors under the age of 18 shall be accompanied by an adult. For more information, click here.

Clayton County’s event is part of the state-wide Rivers Alive volunteer cleanup event that targets all waterways in the state of Georgia, including streams, rivers, lakes, beaches and wetlands.
