Clayton County’s Drinking Water Met or Exceeded All Federal and State Standards in 2023

June 20, 2024 (Morrow, Georgia) – – The Clayton County Water Authority’s (CCWA) annual Water Quality Report shows its drinking water met or exceeded all federal and state government standards from January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023.

Annual water quality reports, also referred to as a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), give a detailed analysis of the water the residents of Clayton County consume every day. CCWA’s Water Quality staff performs more than 200,000 water tests each year to test for potential contaminants. A summary of the test results is found in this report.

“This report is a great resource tool. We encourage customers to read through it for valuable information about our drinking water,” says Water Production Director Coty McDaniel.

CCWA operates three award-winning drinking water treatment facilities that met 100% of their compliance permits during 2023. All three facilities received Platinum Awards for this achievement in April from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. The Terry R. Hicks Water Production Plant (WPP) has been a Platinum facility for 23 years; the J.W. Smith WPP has been a Platinum facility for 15 years and the William J. Hooper WPP celebrates 26 years Platinum. The Hooper Plant is one of two water production facilities in the State of Georgia with the longest running tenure of receiving the Platinum Award.

The creation and distribution of water quality reports was a centerpiece of the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act, passed by the U.S. Congress. The act was passed to provide valuable information to consumers about their drinking water and encourage more public involvement in the water treatment and distribution process.  Each community water system in the United States is required to “prepare and distribute this annual water quality report summarizing information regarding source, any detected contaminants, compliance, and educational opportunities.
