Behind the Tap Spotlight: Recreation Area Specialist Tyler Perry
Meet Recreation Area Specialist Tyler Perry. Working alongside his teammates, Jep and Jacob, Tyler plays a crucial role in maintaining CCWA’s Shamrock/Blalock and J.W. Smith recreational areas, including the Shamrock Community Use Building (CUB), J.W. Smith CUB, and the Newman Wetlands Center trails. With over a year at CCWA, Tyler previously worked as an operator in Distribution & Conveyance before transitioning to his current role. Tyler’s career in recreation stems from a lifelong passion for nature and the outdoors. “This is what I know and love,” he explains. His extensive experience in landscaping and similar work since his youth has fueled his dedication to his role at CCWA.
A typical day for Tyler starts with checking emails before moving on to his outdoor responsibilities. These include cutting grass around the recreation areas, performing general maintenance, conducting trash runs, performing safety checks on buildings, and making supply runs. On weekends and holidays, when the recreational areas are busiest, Tyler ensures everything is in top condition. Additionally, during the fall deer hunting season, he assists with checking in hunters, verifying waivers, and assessing the health and age of the deer for safety reasons.
One of Tyler’s primary challenges is ensuring that all buildings and facilities are in optimal condition, especially before busy weekends. He also strives to hold visitors accountable for following rules and guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
What does Tyler enjoy most about his job? He values the opportunity to ensure that the community has a positive and enjoyable experience at the recreational areas. Interacting with a diverse group of people and contributing to their enjoyment of CCWA’s natural spaces brings him great satisfaction. “I enjoy helping the public and making sure that they have a good time enjoying the land that CCWA has to offer,” Tyler shares.
Although he shares a name with the famous filmmaker, this Tyler Perry is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the beautiful recreational spaces at CCWA. His commitment to the community and passion for the outdoors make him a true standout in his own right. #waterprofessional
