McGarrah Elementary and Elite Scholars Academy Students Earn Water Environment Research Awards
Morrow, Georgia – – The Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) Board of Directors recognized students from McGarrah Elementary and Elite Scholars Academy for their outstanding water related science fair projects during its May 4 Board Meeting.
For more than 25 years, CCWA has provided judges to the Clayton County Regional Science & Engineering Fair held every February. During the fair, CCWA staff serving as judges select an outstanding water related project. The students are then recognized during the board’s May meeting.
Aaliyah Josue and Makayla Pena, 4th grade students from McGarrah Elementary School, were recognized for their project entitled, “Why is Water Filtration Important?” where they learned about a major process in water treatment.
Kyleigh Conley, a 10th grade student from Elite Scholars Academy was recognized for her project entitled, “The Effects of Water Locations on Dissolved Oxygen Levels” in which she tested bodies of water in a constructed wetland and a nature preserve.
“We are very impressed with these students and the science behind their projects,” says Dr. Cephus Jackson, chairman of the CCWA Board of Directors. “We encourage them to continue learning more about science and specifically water related issues.”
