Behind the Tap Spotlight: AMI Field Specialists Rolando Ramirez and Miller Jordan

Meet AMI Field Specialists Rolando Ramirez and Miller Jordan. You may have heard the term AMI, or Advanced Metering Infrastructure, as we’ve been talking more about smart meters recently. CCWA is currently in the process of upgrading more than 80,000 meters across the county as part of our AMI project. These new smart meters will allow customers to view their daily water use and help CCWA identify leaks, resolve issues faster, and better serve our community with real-time data.

But who helps make all this possible? That’s where our AMI Field Specialists like Rolando and Miller come in.

Rolando has been with CCWA for over seven years, working his way up through several roles—from Grounds Crew to Water Treatment Plant Operator, to Leak Repair Crew, to Account Service Representative in Meter Services, and then into his current role as an AMI Field Specialist. “My usual day-to-day job duties consist of doing inspections in the areas where new AMI installations have been done and coordinating with our contractor Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) and other departments to troubleshoot any issues that arise post-installation,” he shared. “I really enjoy the freedom the job gives me to find the most efficient way to work, and no two days are exactly the same.”

Rolando also noted the impact this project will have on customers and CCWA as a whole. “The new AMI smart meters will allow customers to have the same access we do when tracking their water usage through the EyeOnWater app,” he explained. “This new system will let us directly see what the customer sees, making our processes more transparent and easier to understand. It will also help us implement innovative solutions for customer issues and improve efficiency by tracking and pulling data through Beacon.” In addition to his fieldwork, Rolando is actively involved in CCWA initiatives such as Tap on the Go and Fix a Leak Week. Outside of work, he enjoys cars—whether attending car shows or working on his own—as well as outdoor activities like hiking in North Georgia and capturing nature photography.

Miller Jordan has been with CCWA for an impressive 23 years and brings deep experience from his time as a Meter Services Account Service Representative. Today, he works closely with Rolando to inspect meters, verify meter information, assist UMS contractors, and ensure installation crews are in the right place. “We handle everything from incorrect meter information to assisting with meter locations,” said Miller. “Sometimes we’re dealing with issues like weather delays or troubleshooting installs that weren’t completed properly.” When he’s not on the job, Miller enjoys working out and staying active. He’s also a big basketball fan—both NBA and college—and helps his brother with his AAU basketball team. Most of all he loves spending time with his grandchildren and cherishing time with his wife, Michelle. #waterprofessionals
