Behind the Tap Spotlight: Surveyor Supervisor Jordan Clanton
Meet Surveyor Supervisor Jordan Clanton. Jordan is the go-to person for ensuring accuracy in CCWA’s big capital projects. Jordan has been part of the CCWA family for nine years, transitioning from roles like Stormwater Mechanic to Stormwater Operator to Surveyor then being promoted to Surveyor Supervisor.
On a typical day, Jordan oversees survey work, edits data, and manages a team of two surveyors. They specialize in big projects that are crucial to our community. Jordan’s day involves a lot of Geographic Information System (GIS) editing, which is a computer-based tool used to store, visualize, analyze, and interpret geographic data. As supervisor, Jordan has many duties that he must fulfill which includes developing and overseeing employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control. Additionally, he supervises all necessary adjustments to field data, prepares reports and ensures compliance with local and state requirements. And so much more.
What does Jordan enjoy most about his job? It’s teamwork. Even though they work on separate aspects, the collaboration with Construction Services makes every project a success. However, like any job, there are challenges. For Jordan, it’s about constantly learning new things and making sure everything is accurate. “Surveying is all about accuracy” Jordan says. “If something isn’t accurate then it can throw the whole project off and a lot of money is involved in these projects” he adds.
Aside from his usual work duties Jordan is also the newest member of CCWA’s Safety Committee and participated in the undefeated CCWA Hydro-Hitter’s softball game last year. #waterprofessional
