P. Michael Thomas

General Manager


Mike Thomas has worked for the Clayton County Water Authority since 1999 serving as the Manager of the Program Management/ Engineering Department for seven years before becoming General Manager in December 2006. In this position, he leads the 370 member work force that provides water, sewer and stormwater services to more than 270,000 residents. CCWA is well known as an innovative and award winning utility.

Mike holds a Master of Science from the University of Georgia. He has a well-rounded background of water resources management and leadership experience through his earlier work as an Environmental Specialist for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, a Principal Environmental Planner for the Atlanta Regional Commission, a Land Development Engineer for Clayton County Transportation & Development and Water Resources Project Manager for Parsons Engineering Science.

Along with his work experience, Mike has been very active in industry associations.

• Member of the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2009
• Graduate of Leadership Clayton
• Graduate of the ARC’s Regional Leadership Institute
• Graduate of the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership, Atlanta Regional Leadership Institute and Leadership Clayton.
• He chaired several committees and served on the Board of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) from 1998 – 2006 including a term as President in 2005.
• He served as President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Water Resources Association in 1995.
• Chairman of the Elders at McDonough Christian Church

He and his wife Lisa have three grown daughters and are active members of McDonough Christian Church.
