SLBE Program Now Accepting GA Department of Transportation DBA Certifications

Mar 19, 2018 by Suzanne Brown

The Clayton County Water Authority’s (CCWA) Small Local Business Enterprise (SLBE) Program is now accepting Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certifications from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) as valid certifications for its Provisional Certification process.

“Our goal is to increase the number of certified SLBE firms in our program to further broaden the scope of services and products provided by those firms,” adds Procurement Compliance Coordinator Yolanda Jackson. “Firms that have been DBE certified by GDOT meet the requirements to be provisionally certified in our SLBE program. Therefore, the acceptance of the DBE certification will give us an opportunity to increase the number of certified SLBEs in our program tremendously.”

CCWA’s Board of Directors approved the change during its March 1, 2018 Board Meeting. The change was effective March 1.

CCWA’s program continues to grow since it began certifying firms in 2015. Through the 1st three quarters of fiscal year 2017, CCWA spent $7.68 million representing 24 percent utilization of its certified SLBEs. There are currently 191 certified SLBEs in the program. With the program now accepting the DBE certification from GDOT, certifications are expected to continue to rise.

Under its previous SLBE Provisional Certification process, only firms that hold a small local business certification with Clayton County Central Services, the City of Atlanta or DeKalb County could apply for the SLBE’s two-year Provisional Certification with CCWA.

CCWA’s SLBE Program ensures the Authority has a robust race-neutral approach to promoting full and equal business opportunity for all persons doing business with the Authority; promotes commerce by assisting SLBEs to actively participate in the Authority’s procurement process; and ensures that the Authority utilizes programs that provide it with the best possible resources.

CCWA’s next scheduled business development workshop, ‘Accurate and Competitive Pricing: How To Price It Right’ will be held on Tuesday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the South Clayton Recreation Center located at 1837 McDonough Rd., Hampton, GA 30228.

Guests may register for this event by clicking here or by contacting the SLBE Program office at (770) 960-5880 or via email at ccwa_slbe_program@ccwa.us.

CCWA is committed to and actively seeking to do business with firms who are certified as small local businesses in Clayton County and the surrounding 10 contiguous counties including Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Rockdale, and Spalding.
