Annual Water Quality Report Shows Drinking Water Met or Exceeded All Federal and State Standards During 2017

May 25, 2018 by Raven Reese

The Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) is proud to release its 2018 Water Quality Report that shows its drinking water met or exceeded all federal and state government standards from January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017.

Annual water quality reports, also referred to as a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), give a detailed analysis of the water the residents of Clayton County consume every day. CCWA’s Water Quality staff performs more than 200,000 water tests each year to test for potential contaminants. A summary of the tests are found in this report.

“Our daily responsibility and commitment is to continue producing a quality product for our customers as well as our community,” says Kendra Stanciel, CCWA water production manager. “We thank our customers for letting us serve them.”

CCWA operates three award-winning drinking water treatment facilities that met 100% of their compliance permits during 2017. All three facilities received 2018 Platinum Awards during the Georgia Association of Water Authority’s Spring Conference in April for this achievement. The Terry R. Hicks Water Production Plant (WPP) has been a Platinum facility for 17 years; the J.W. Smith WPP has been a Platinum facility for nine years and the William J. Hooper WPP celebrates its 20th year Platinum. The Hooper Plant is one of two water production facilities in the State of Georgia with the longest running tenure of receiving the Platinum Award.

The creation and distribution of water quality reports was a centerpiece of the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act, passed by the U.S. Congress. The act was passed to provide valuable information to consumers about their drinking water and encourage more public involvement in the water treatment and distribution process. Each community water system in the United States is required to "prepare and distribute this annual water quality report summarizing information regarding source, any detected contaminants, compliance, and educational opportunities.

CCWA’s latest report is available on this website under the public info tab. Customers who would like a copy mailed to their home or business should contact CCWA’s Call Center at 770.960.5200 or CCWA_CustomerService@ccwa.us
