Thank you for participating in Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day on April 24th
Annual event promotes proper disposal of hazardous items to protect environment and water quality

More than 300 residents brought their old paint, batteries, cleaners, motor oil, medications and other items to the Clayton County Water Authority’s (CCWA) annual Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day on April 24th.
The free event is sponsored by CCWA every April to encourage residents to dispose of these items properly so that they do not wind up in our streams or creeks.
The following items were accepted:
• Household Paints (Latex & Oil)
• Cooking Oil/Grease
• Bleaches and Chlorine
• Pesticides & Herbicides
• Solvents & Sealers
• Automotive and Household Batteries
• Drain cleaners
• Paint Thinner
• Wood strippers
• Motor Oil/Transmission Fluid/Antifreeze
• Aerosols
• Fluorescent Bulbs
• Oven Cleaners
• Insect Sprays & Rodent Killers
• Fire Extinguishers
• Propane & Butane Tanks
• Over The Counter and Prescription Medications
• Non-hazardous wastes such as cleaners, polishers, cosmetics
This was the first year CCWA partnered with Southern Regional Medical Center and the Clayton County Police Department to collect prescription and over-the-counter medications and narcotics.
CCWA continues to increase its public education efforts to teach customers the proper way to dispose of medications. Unused medications should never be poured down the sink or flushed down the toilet. Instead, unused medications should be mixed in with used kitty litter or coffee grounds and then put into their household garbage. Or, brought to Amnesty Day events such as this.
A big thank you goes out to the Lovejoy High School Air Force Junior ROTC students that checked in vehicles as they entered the event and volunteers from Jonesboro and Forest Park Kiwanis, Grassroots Leadership and Leadership Clayton.
